From Start to Finished
The Sandy River Delta is located at the confluence of the Columbia and Sandy Rivers, east of Portland in Multnomah
County. This series of photos catalogs a five year process of restoring 350 acres of Ash-Cottonwood floodplain forest
habitat.
We flail-mow invasive shrubs and herbaceous weeds.

Our licensed applicators apply site-appropriate
herbicides to control regrowing weeds.
In the late summer, we cultivate to prepare soil for
seeding and planting.
Planting crews arrive in early winter to install native
trees and shrubs.
The Sandy River Delta
One year after initial planting, native trees and shrubs
have begun to occupy the site.
Two years later the site begins to fill in.  Periodic
maintenance treatments, including mowing and spot
spraying, are essential during this stage to control
weeds.
